What's
New This Week at Delicious Organics?
SO MUCH we thought we'd share the information a little earlier than usual this week!
Many of you joined us and took advantage
of great
savings at our Farmer's Market this weekend! Farmer's
Market will remain Sundays from 11am - 3pm (we see that you
preferred to start your day later on Sundays and quite frankly, so do we, so
we're sticking with opening at 11am.) Our selection of delicious
organic fruits and vegetables has grown, our area for shopping has grown and
is easier to access, prices are on the produce boxes and they are grouped
together to make shopping easier for you, we are adding price labels to
grocery items throughout the store, and we are inputting all the information
to our cash register so check out has been faster!

Market of South Florida and check it each week for updates.

Sweet delicious summer fruit in season now at great prices!
Monstera
Deliciosa - Norman Van Aken
explains: "You owe it to yourself to experience Monsteras." Used to
flavor drinks and ice cream or it can be eaten as a fresh fruit, the ripe
part. Norman Van Aken explains, "People ask me what I do with this fruit.
One thing that is wonderful is enjoying it with your cereal in the morning.
And the way it ripens a little bit at a time makes the morning thing work
too." MORE ABOUT THE DELICIOUS
MONSTER
Sweet
Delicious Big Juicy Golden Sweet Costa Rican Pineapples will be in on
Wednesday! They are PRICED RIGHT so get them while available!
These are DELICIOUS! I personally will guarantee it! We also
have the Sweet Golden Maui Pineapples too but they are more money, as is
usual for Maui Pineapples.

Lychees
are here! Sweet
and delicious, with a delightful floral
aroma in your mouth, they gorgeous red and
inviting, very unique in flavor and perfect
for summer fun in Florida. Only available for a limited time, so we
should stop to enjoy this tropical summer treat while we can! These
are from right here in Florida so support your local organic farmers while
you delight your senses.
Rainier
Cherries are only available for a couple months so enjoy while
you can! They are yellow with a pink or red blush and a soft yellow
color inside. They grow plumper than other cherries and they are sweet.
These are considered by many to be THE best cherry!
Bing
Cherries are so inviting with their deep mahogany color while
being sweet, juicy, and delicious. They
are
one of the larger cherries so perfect for snacking. Indulge, they are
also a good source of Vitamin C, beta Carotene and chock full of
antioxidants! The pectin in the cherry helps to regulate blood
cholesterol levels. And PRICED right for summer fun so enjoy them
while they are in season! Munch on them as a snack, add them to your
fruit platter or fruit salad, make a cherry pie, make cherry jam, sauté them
in some butter and add to yogurt or top ice cream; you can pit them and
freeze them too.
Red
Seedless & Green Seedless Grapes are abundant, sweet and juicy,
and priced
well! Everyone always comments that our grapes are better than the
store's - that's because you are getting them so soon after harvest and
because we don't store them out on the shelf but in the cooler at optimal
temperatures. Freeze them and enjoy a nice frozen treat on a hot day!
Strawberries are priced really well now and we have them in the big 1 lb boxes too! Strawberries top the list of conventional fruits
with
the
most contamination of pesticides and therefore should only be eaten when
grown organically. And who
can blame those bugs and animals? Strawberries are the inviting gorgeous
luscious red sweet juicy lips of the fruit world. That they are full of
antioxidants and
Vitamin C is just a bonus. Conventional
strawberries can contain 36 different harmful pesticides including ones that
are known carcinogens, cause birth defects, cause brain and nerve damage,
and ones known to impair fertility and damage reproductive systems.
Remember this doesn't just affect us consumers, but the farm workers and
Mother Earth herself. To top that off, how well can we really wash a
strawberry? At best we simply rinse them removing no pesticides at all.
And kids love them! Because of all this, Strawberries are the single most
important food to buy
organic.
Raspberries
are quite aromatic and a real treat and a great value this week! Decadent, fragrant, sweet and
tart with a
burst of antioxidants, fiber (that reduces cholesterol), and
Vitamin C. Enjoy them immediately or use your
evert-fresh bag.
When you get berries home you should open them onto a paper towel and remove
any wet ones. Make sure they are dry before storing. Don't get
them wet until you're ready to eat them. These berries also
top the list of conventional fruits with the
most contamination of pesticides and therefore should only be eaten if
organic.
Try them topped on mascarpone cheese and honeys
with hazelnuts - yum!
Blueberries
are a powerful and versatile fruit full of antioxidants! We will
have a limited supply of FRESH blueberries. We also have
freeze
dried, dried, and
frozen! Snack on them, use
them in breakfast yogurt or cereal, make them into a
healthy
dessert or serve them over ice cream, and we can even add them to
our Burgers! The scientist who discovered the secret power
of blueberries, Ronald Prior, PhD, also the head of the USDA Phytochemical
Laboratory at Tufts, recommends adding one-half cup of blueberries to
our diet every day!
Honeydew Melons
and BIG
Cantaloupes are sweet and delicious! Let them ripen
(in or out of the refrigerator) until they are fragrant. We never knew that honeydew could be so
sweet and tasty until we had these organic honeydews and now we know how
they got their name!
Sweet and delicious, your
friends and kids won't believe their eyes when you cut this one open - it is a
Tiny Orchid
Yellow Watermelon! Juicy too, so get your napkin ready.
Great addition to a fruit salad or to serve as a snack or dessert, or turn into
yellow watermelon juice! Very thin rind (did you know the rind is actually
edible too!?) so they don't feel like the usual watermelon (you can't thump them
for all those thumpers out there) and the color will surprise you! We also
have Crimson Red Sweet Watermelons, and
Red Seedless Watermelons! Mix them up for a colorful salad or
snack!
The
sweetest and best tasting Peaches,
Apricots, Plums, Pluots, and
Nectarines
are in stock now that we are well into season. Best yet, prices
have dropped since we're well into season too so take a bite of the taste of
summer!
Remember that peaches are on the
list of conventional fruits with the
most contamination of pesticides and therefore should only be eaten when
grown organically.
And don't forget to eat your VEGETABLES!
Prepared correctly, vegetables are delicious!
Broccoli
Raab, also called Rabe or Rapini, has saw-tooth edged leaves and
little broccoli florets. It is loved in Italy and China (called
Chinese Flowering Cabbage or Choy Sum) and pairs nicely with garlic, olive
oil, and tomatoes. It is a good source of Vitamin C, Beta Carotene,
Fiber, and Antioxidants to help ward off cancer. It is a
delicious green that is easy to prepare. It has a nice bite to it.
If your shy of the slight bitterness, then blanch it first (plunge into
boiling water for a minute and then plunge into ice water to hold the color)
before preparing. Trim, chop and sauté in garlic and olive oil as a
side dish (it's a little bitter, so you may want to add some raisins too)
and a splash of vinegar (balsamic works well) and maybe some toasted pine
nuts or walnuts. You can also add it to tomato sauces and stews, add
it to pasta (maybe with some sundried tomatoes!), cut it up and mash it
(Kale is also great for this) with potatoes, steam it, or braise it.
It doesn't need long to cook. Try a
Broccoli Raab and Fontina Cheese Omelet or
Braised Broccoli Raab. Serve it at room temperature as a salad or
warm as a side dish or part of the meal.

Blue
Lake Beans, Green Beans, Fresh English Peas, Sugar Snap Peas, Snow Peas,

Zucchini

can be sautéed, stuffed, fried, steamed, roasted, added to soups or stews,
grilled, added to baked goods, used as a topping for pizza, made into
fritters or "latkes", shredded into pasta cooked or used raw in salads,
juiced, added to crudités platters. And there are great recipe ideas
in this month's Eating Well Magazine (see below.)

Raw
Chocolate can be used in a number of ways. Try it right out
of the bag, top desserts and fruit with it or try making a Chocolate Sauce

dipping strawberries!)
