We are affected by climate changes throughout the world.  Produce prices fluctuate with harvest and season.  As in anything we buy as consumers, supply and demand dictate price.  At Delicious Organics when our prices go down, we pass along the savings to you, likewise when things go up, so must our prices.  We charge a marginal mark up on each item.  If you see a price take a sharp rise it is not that we have changed our mark up but rather that the season has dictated a pricing change.  We are paying more for the same item from our organic farmers, suppliers, distributors, and wholesalers and so we must raise our prices.  You may see these rises first on our site since we get in produce daily and we update our pricing constantly on the site.  That only shows how fresh everything is coming from us!  We want to assure you that you will certainly see the rise at your local grocery store on that same organic product if you see it here.  Normally our prices are 20% lower than the local grocery store and even less than farmer's markets, coops, and even buying clubs.  Our goal is to make organics affordable and as such we mark up minimally and only a reasonable amount so that we can continue providing you with the largest and freshest selection of organic produce and more delivered to your door.  Thank you for supporting our efforts!

For example, some issues we've had caused a sharp increase in pricing that was felt nationwide:

The Frost in California Affects Us in Sunny South Florida

In excess of one billion dollars in citrus crops have been destroyed by unprecedented freezing temperatures in California.  Dipping well below 20 degrees F at night, many of the largest farming lands in California have been hit and we will all be feeling a bit chilly this coming week as we shop for food.

The frost took conventional and organic alike, without any discrimination.  Estimates on damage include 75% of orange crops and 100% of all lemons!  Farmers cannot even get to the fields to harvest fruits and vegetables that were not destroyed by the frost.  We will feel the impact in Oranges and Lemons as well as Strawberries, Avocados, Lettuce (especially Romaine), Leafy Greens like Spinach, and other vegetables including Potatoes.  Starting this week, supply will be scarce and prices will start soaring.  And what we can get out of California will probably be mediocre at best.

The record breaking temperatures will be felt for months to come since the cold weather slows the growth of crops planted just before the frost as well as seriously delaying the planting of the new crops.  While the freeze is expected to end in about a week, it's effects will be felt for at least 2 months.

Of course Delicious Organics will, as we always do, shop locally first as Florida offers us strawberries, oranges and other citrus, eggplant, zucchini and yellow squash, hard squash, tomatoes, cucumbers, and more, but remember that these prices will also rise briskly due to limited supply out of California.

We wanted you to be aware that there will be very limited supply of these items in particular: Broccoli, Cucumbers, Onions, Potatoes, Summer Squash, Tomatoes, Lettuces, Salads and Baby Greens and understand that the quality will not be what we have come to expect.  If you are trying organics for the first time or if you are using our Delicious Organics service for the first time, we want you to understand that these are forces well beyond our control and the quality of organics will not be typical.  As always, we will keep our margin low and we will do our best to accept the best possible product available.

Global Warming is not just hot weather; unusual climate changes including this frost in California may be attributable to it's effects.  Each one of us has an impact; join us in lessening our footprint.

Please note:  If you placed an order before last Friday 3pm for delivery this week, we may not be able to honor the prices as we normally do since our site was listing the past weeks prices, much below what we expect this coming week.
