GENERAL STORAGE TIPS:  Because of our hot humid Florida weather, even in air conditioned homes, we do not recommend any fruit (except Bananas and Tomatoes) be kept on the counter, unfortunately.  Most fruit will continue to ripen in the refrigerator at a slower pace so it usually works fine.  If you want to ripen an avocado, you can leave it on the counter for a day or two.  Tomatoes can be stored on the counter for a couple days in a cool place to maximize flavor.  Stone fruit (summer fruit) should be stored in the refrigerator but moved to the counter for up to a day (but not overnight) to get to room temperature.  Pineapples are picked ripe and will not get any sweeter but you can keep them on your counter for a day to soften and get juicier.  I keep mine in my fridge and have had good luck that way.  Hard squash and onions can be kept on the counter but potatoes are best in the fridge or a cool area outside of the refrigerator; take them out at least a day (or overnight) before using so the sugars turn back to starch.

In Florida we have to take extra steps to make sure our fruits and vegetables stay at their peak.  Enjoy your delicious organics!
